FAQs

What does your urgent care center treat?

We treat all kinds of medical illnesses and injuries. Flu, strep throat, bronchitis, pneumonia, stomach upset, dehydration……the list goes on and on. We can give injections and IV fluids if needed, and manage acute painful conditions such as kidney stones. We also take care of injuries, and have the ability to take Xrays on site as well as apply splints and provide crutches/walkers if needed. We have a small lab on site as well.

What ages do you treat?

We treat all patients 6 months of age and older.

Do you accept insurance?

We accept all major insurance plans. We accept BCBS, Cigna, Aetna, United Healthcare, Wellpath/Coventry, UMR, Duke Select and Duke Basic, Gateway, Medcost, Tricare, Medicare and NC Medicaid. If your insurance is not listed, please call us and check.

What happens if I don’t have insurance?

We expect payment at time of service, and have a very generous discount from our fee schedule for those who pay “out of pocket”.  Our basic charge is $120 to be seen. There may be additional charges depending upon the cause for the visit, and these will be discussed with you prior to ordering any further test, X-rays etc. We work with you to deliver great care at a price you can afford.

Do you take appointments?

We are primarily a walk in clinic and no appointment is necessary.  You can go online and check in through Clockwise to let us know you'll be on your way.

Can you be my regular doctor?

We are specialists in “unscheduled care”. We can treat and manage many acute illnesses and follow you for them, and we can assist in finding you a primary care provider if you don’t have one. If you have chronic on going illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure and the like, you are better served having a regular doctor who can see you on a scheduled basis. We, on the other hand, can best serve you when something unexpected happens or your doctor simply can’t see you promptly.

What happens if I need to go to the hospital?

If we determine your condition requires hospitalization or a more in depth evaluation than we can provide, we will, with your agreement and input, make arrangements for your transfer to the appropriate medical facility.

Can you send records to my regular doctor?

Yes, with your permission, records of your visit to MedAccess will be sent electronically to your primary care doctor or specialist.

What things do you not treat?

We treat almost everything…but we do not manage chronic pain, and none of our providers prescribe methadone or oxycontin. Patients with the need for chronic on going pain management are best managed by their primary care provider or their pain specialist.

Can you do school and other routine physicals?

Sort-of!  We can do a variety of physicals, but we cannot complete your annual wellness physical, or any entry to school physicals.

We can do the following: sports physicals, teacher physicals, college physicals, commercial drivers license medical exams, etc.  If you have questions, or need one completed that is not on this list, please call our office.
