Position Title: Medical Assistant (X-Ray)
Location: Chapel Hill, NC
Duties and Responsibilities:
This is a full-time hourly position requiring Monday-Friday and scheduled weekend/holiday hours in an urgent care setting. The goal of this team member is to provide an exceptional patient experience by assisting in the delivery of medical care with compassion, efficiency, and accuracy.
- Triage incoming patients; perform CPR and other emergency measures, if necessary
- Escort patients to exam rooms; take histories and vital signs; prepare patients for examination
- Assist providers in examination and treatment of patients, minor surgeries, and physicals
- Utilize electronic medical record (EMR) software to record patient information in compliance with HIPAA/confidentiality guidelines
- Perform accurate and timely input of data into EMR and practice management system
- Prepare patients for radiological procedures and take x-rays following established procedures for patient care and safety
- Protect patients, staff, and self from radiation exposure by practicing sound procedures which meet or exceed industry standards
- Obtain quality diagnostic radiographs as requested by providers and maintain a repeat rate of 2% or less
- Log completed radiological procedures, completing paperwork accurately and on time and identifying and filing reports as required
- Ensure that all radiological equipment is in good working condition and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations, immediately reporting any equipment malfunction to the Practice Manager.
- Stock and set up exam rooms with necessary equipment and supplies
- Clean and sterilize instruments
- Perform phlebotomy and IV treatment in accordance with training and provider direction
- Collect and process lab specimens
- Perform glucose monitoring
- Provide wound care and perform suture removal as directed by provider
- Process referral and prior authorization requests in accordance with company protocol
- Dispense medication as directed by providers
- Communicate with patient, pharmacy, and physician inquiries within the scope of practice; involve provider as needed
Educational/Professional Skills Required
- Must have current ARRT x-ray certification
- Ability to use practice management and EMR software with confidence and to utilize online lab programs accurately and independently
- Ability to establish IVs (preferred but not required)
- Ability to adjust responsibilities to accommodate a fast-paced medical setting
- Ability to react calmly in an emergency situation
- Displays a positive and helpful attitude to both public and staff

- Self-starter, managing small increments of time efficiently
- Personable and team-work oriented
- Flexible and adaptable to changing situations and schedules
